HabibOil: Building Uganda’s Energy Future Through Human Capital
HabibOil Distribution & Fleet Crew
At HabibOil, we know that our greatest strength lies not in infrastructure or assets, but in our people—the dedicated team whose expertise and passion drive growth, exceed customer expectations, and shape the future of Uganda’s energy sector.
As the nation enters a new era of oil production and export, we recognized the critical need for a skilled local workforce ready to power this transformation, and we took decisive action. Partnering with the Ministry of Energy, we secured a landmark agreement with the internationally renowned Kenson School of Production Technology in Trinidad and Tobago, creating pathways for customized oil and gas training that prepare Ugandan talent to compete locally, regionally, and globally.
Building on this foundation, we launched plans for the Namanve Centre for Excellence, a state-of-the-art hub designed to deliver cutting-edge instruction and hands-on experience, while engaging strategic partners such as Production Services Network and Aberdeen Skills and Enterprise Training (ASET) to deliver in-country programs that emphasize technology transfer and workforce empowerment.
By combining global expertise with local capacity building, we are equipping Ugandan professionals to lead in the energy sector and ensuring that the benefits of oil and gas development are deeply rooted in national pride and sustainability.

HabibOil Petroleum Exploration field staff
Habib Oil: Integrated Petroleum Development
Habib Oil operates across the entire petroleum value chain, positioning itself as a fully integrated energy company with expertise in upstream, midstream, and downstream operations. In the upstream sector, we focus on exploration and production (E&P), deploying advanced geological surveys, seismic technologies, and drilling capabilities to identify and extract oil and gas reserves efficiently and responsibly. Our upstream operations are designed to maximize resource recovery while adhering to the highest standards of safety and environmental stewardship.
In the midstream sector, Habib Oil builds and manages the critical infrastructure that connects production to markets. This includes pipelines, storage facilities, and processing plants that ensure the safe and efficient transportation of crude oil and natural gas from extraction sites to refineries or export terminals. By reducing bottlenecks and enhancing logistics, our midstream operations strengthen energy security, improve market access, and create resilient supply chains that support regional and international trade.
Finally, in the downstream sector, we transform raw hydrocarbons into refined products that power economies and everyday life. Our refining and marketing operations produce gasoline, diesel, petrochemicals, and other essential fuels, which are distributed to industries, businesses, and consumers across Africa and beyond. Through downstream innovation, we deliver value-added products, expand market reach, and ensure reliable energy access.
We operate through HabibOil Ltd, our dedicated subsidiary specializing in oil and gas distribution across East and Central Africa. As the exclusive distributor of Hyrax Lubricants in the region, we supply high-performance lubricants and Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) to major industrial clients and power generation facilities, including the Electro-Maxx Power Plant in Eastern Uganda. Our operations are built on a commitment to reliability, efficiency, and strategic partnerships that drive energy access and infrastructure development. At our core, we believe in investing in clean, scalable energy solutions that power homes, industries, and innovation—laying the foundation for a more sustainable and resilient future across the African continent.
Our operations are anchored in an unwavering commitment to efficiency, reliability, and strategic partnerships, ensuring that communities and businesses alike enjoy consistent access to energy that fuels economic progress. We recognize that energy is more than just power—it is the lifeblood of opportunity, innovation, and growth.
At our core, we invest in clean, scalable energy solutions that are designed not only to power homes and industries but also to ignite creativity, drive technological advancement, and empower the next generation of leaders. By combining cutting-edge technology with sustainable practices, we are laying the foundation for a future where energy is abundant, affordable, and accessible to all.
Promoting cleaner, more sustainable energy solutions lies at the core of HabibOil’s long-term vision to meet the region’s future energy needs. As a signatory to the Kyoto Protocol, Uganda has introduced legislation requiring that, from 2010 onward, all diesel sold in the country must contain a minimum blend of biofuel derived from renewable sources.
While many petroleum companies are still working to adapt to these new regulations, HabibOil distinguishes itself by embracing this transition with pride and commitment. HabibOil has long embraced Uganda’s clean energy directive, positioning itself at the forefront of renewable energy adoption. In 2008, the company partnered with the African Power Initiative (API), Africa’s largest biofuel producer, established in Ethiopia and Uganda to drive innovation in sustainable energy.
Through API, more than 3,000 Ugandan outgrowers cultivate candlenut, castor, and jatropha on low-fertility land, ensuring no displacement of food crops while creating livelihoods for rural families. The initiative also generates income from carbon offsets and repurposes husks and fibers into eco-friendly briquettes, helping reduce deforestation.
As API’s exclusive offtake partner in Uganda, HabibOil is committed to a long-term collaboration to expand biofuel production and strengthen the country’s renewable energy future.
East Africa’s Rift Valley, once among the world’s last untapped high-potential oil regions, has rapidly emerged as a transformative frontier, with Uganda’s Albert Graben basin revealing reserves of at least two billion barrels of sweet crude—figures that could rise beyond six billion as exploration continues in Lake Edward and West Nile.
With commercial viability confirmed and development underway, Uganda is poised to become one of Africa’s top five oil producers, generating an estimated $2 billion annually. Positioned with strong expertise in logistics, transportation, and petroleum distribution, HabibOil is strategically aligned to support this growth, engaging with international partners to contribute to refinery construction and pipeline expansion to the Kenyan coast, marking a natural progression into the upstream sector and reinforcing its role in shaping Uganda’s nascent oil industry.
